XtraGrass excels in Japan’s largest stadium with retractable roof

In the summer of 2019, our partner ASTRO in Japan successfully installed XtraGrass at the magnificent Showa Denko Dome in Oita, Japan. Featuring 40.000-seats and the largest retractable roof in Japan, the stadium hosted five Rugby World Cup 2019 matches including the quarter finals of pools C and D.

The XtraGrass pitch with warm season grass was cultivated as sods at an external sod farm, and was installed at the stadium as a lay-and-play system. The pitch is used for both rugby and soccer matches.

Today, the XtraGrass pitch in the Showa Denko Dome is home ground of the J-League soccer club Oita Trinita. The Japanese J-league is the professional football division.
